The Opening Speech by Chen Xiufang, head of the CPC’s Provincial United Front Work Department

Chen Xiufang, head of the CPC’s Provincial United Front Work Department of Hebei, Zhang Baoyan, director of the Provincial Religious Affairs Bureau have come to the opening of the Conference on Religion and Ethics of Feb. 25.

Expressing her congratulation in her speech, she said, “I am very happy to be with you all at this conference hosted by the five religions of the province and organized by the Faith Institute for Cultural Studies.”

“Since I am responsible for the United Front Work, I have participated in three such academic conferences. The first one was the “Mutual Adaptation between Religion and Socialism” hosted by the Hebei Academy of Social Sciences. The second one was “Religion and Environmental Protection” hosted by our five religions and organized by the Faith Institute for Cultural Studies. Today is the third one which is also organized by the Faith Institute for Cultural Studies. I am particularly happy to participate in this conference. I use the word “particularly” because I think this conference has five good factors: 1. the theme is well chosen; 2. the meaning is good; 3. the timing is good; 4. the date is well chosen and 5.the organization is good,” she said.

“This conference, focusing on religions and ethics, initiates exchanges and dialogues between religions and academia. It will bring new insights to religious ethics,make positive contribution to the building up of a harmonious society for Hebei. The past efforts of the religious sector in our province should be given affirmation and applause,” she continued.

“Finally, I would like to congratulate the success of the conference on behalf of the United Front Work Department and the Religious Affairs Bureau,” she said.
